The Bergen 4-Day Treatment - B4DT

B4DT is a treatment developed for severe anxiety disorders developed by Gerd Kvale and Bjarne Hansen, which have shown to be very effective. The treatment is currently offered to patients with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic Disorder and Social Anxiety Disorder. There is a vast interest in the treatment, both nationally and internationally, and international dissemination is started.

The B4DT is best described as an individual treatment delivered in a group setting; it is delivered simultaneously to 3-6 patients by the same number of therapists. The 1:1 ratio between therapists and patients ensures individually tailored and therapist-assisted exposure training, while simultaneously taking advantage of the group setting. Prior to undergoing the treatment, the patients are thoroughly educated and prepared for what to expect, and have made the decision to dedicate four full days to working towards change.

The Bergen 4-day Clinic and the norwegian clinics only offer treatment to patients with the right to norwegian health-care at the moment. As more clinics internationally are trained and certified, the treatment will be offered at other sites.

Gerd Kvale and Bjarne Hansen the creators of the Bergen 4-day treatment are listed in Time Magazines: The Health care 50, Fifty people transforming healthcare in 2018

"It's amazing that anyone from Norway can at all be considered and that it is within psychiatry. When Time Magazine writes that we "change the health sector," it really means a lot. We have every reason to be very proud. This is about providing healthcare in a way that increases the likelihood that people get cured and get their lives back, says Gerd Kvale."
