From September 6th to September 9th, 2023, Astrid Bjørke Jenssen, a PhD candidate in the research group MRCRM PI Stian K. Almeland, participated in the 20th EBA congress in Nantes, France.

Astrid's research focused on preclinical studies within the Burn Wound project, which explores the therapeutic potential of mesenchymal stem or stromal cells (MSC) for burn wound healing. Specifically, her work involves investigating the delivery of MSCs to burn wounds using a fibrin spray as a topical administration vehicle.

During the conference's poster presentation session, Astrid showcased her research, and her presentation was recognized as the best poster presentation at the event.

Background and objectives:

Cellular therapies have shown promising results for burn wound healing, especially treatment methods using mesenchymal stem or stromal cells (MSC). Several application methods have been used to administer these cells, including local injection, cell-seeded scaffolds, topical application, and systemic injection.

The aim of this study was to investigate the in vitro feasibility of a fibrin spray as a vehicle for topical administration of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) to burn wounds.
