Maternal immune transfer provides critical protection against early-life infections. The mechanism that confer this protection are poorly understood.

In a mouse study offspring nursed by mothers who had a pre-conception helminth infection, acquired lifelong protective cellular immunity through nursing. This protection was mediated by maternally derived pathogen-experienced lymphocytes being transfered to offspring via nursing.
