Forskningen i senteret er viktig for å kunne gi gode og oppdaterte helsetjenester til sjøfolk og yrkesdykkere, bidra til å utvikle maritim medisin og dykkemedisin, og for å gi gode rådgivningstjenester.

  • Registerstudier

Senteret arbeider med å få etablert et Norsk Maritim Helseregister. Hensikten er å samle helsedata om sjømenn for å gi et faglig godt grunnlag for seleksjon, HMS-tiltak, forskning og utvikling.

Yrkesdykking og forskning innenfor dykkemedisin

Den dykkemedisinske forskningen er fokusert mot yrkesdykking, både utaskjærs og innaskjærs

  • Epidemiologiske studier av yrkesdykkere
  • Fysiologiske, cellulære og biokjemiske responser på dykking

Sentret har et hyperbart cellelaboratorium for eksperimentelle studier. Her kan vi studere effekter av trykk, oksygen, ulike inerte gasser og dekompresjon på cellulære og biokjemiske funksjoner. Vi forsker i hovedsak på modellsystemer som er relevant for å forstå helseeffekter på nerve- og hjerte-kar systemet.

Senteret er med på å utgi det eneste engelskspråklige fagfellevurderte og indekserte tidsskrift i maritim medisin. Tidsskriftet International Maritime Health utgis i Gdynia, Polen. Her kan du lese siste utgave av tidsskriftet. 

 Yrkesmedisinsk Avdeling er med i stiftelsen International Maritime Health Foundation som utgir tidsskriftet.
