
The public hospitals in Norway are organized in 4 regional and about 50 local health trusts. Haukeland University Hospital is one of the five trusts owned by Western Norway Regional Health Authority.
Haukeland University Hospital employs approximately 11000 people and serves as the local hospital of Bergen, Midthordland and Nordhordland, the central hospital of Hordaland county, and the regional hospital of Hordaland, Rogaland and Sogn og Fjordane counties.
Each year almost 600.000 patients are treated and a couple of thousand health workers are educated at Haukeland University Hospital.
The general area of the hospital is approx. 200 000 m2 and the main building (Sentralblokka) is approx. 125 000 m2.
Haukeland is a national specialist hospital and resource center for Burn injuries, air-pressure injuries (diving), Cornea-protesises and treatment of intercranial tumors.
